Image: Science Instructor Cathy HanksCathy Hanks: Dr. Hanks is a structural geologist with an emphasis on petroleum geology and engineering applications. She has conducted geologic field work throughout Alaska, both as an academic geologist and an oil exploration geologist. Most of her current research focuses on fractured rocks in the Brooks Range and their potential behavior as reservoir rocks. Since 2003 she has worked with the Rural Alaska Honors Institute to develop an introductory geoscience class for rural Alaska Native youth. Dr. Hanks is currently an Associate Professor with a joint appointment with the Geophysical Institute and the Department of Petroleum Engineering at UAF.
